May 22nd was a very important day to a lot of people in Ireland, not least to Mairead and Chrisy who tied the knot at the incredible St Mary’s Cathedral in Newry.
We arrived at Maireads parents home to multiple offers of tea, the news was on in the living room giving live updates on the marriage referendum and Mairead was making her final preparations to marry the love of her life, Chrisy.
Tentative reports were filtering through that the Yes vote had succeeded in the marriage referendum, the sun was shining and two beautiful people were about to say, “I do”.
It was looking like it was going to be a perfect day…
The heartfelt vows were made, homemade ice-cream was had, happy speeches were said and hardcore dance moves were pulled.
Mairead, Chrisy and their 3 boys make a beautiful family and were incredibly welcoming right from the start. It was a privilege to be a part of their wedding day.
And in the end the Yes vote won, marriage equality was overwhelmingly supported – it was a perfect day.
